About Us

Superlative Sisters Tutoring, LLC was founded in 2021 by sisters Victoria McGrath and Christina Lopez (née McGrath). Together, the sisters have a combined 15 years of teaching experience. Their mission is to support each student's unique needs and goals, and to give them the necessary tools for academic and professional success. ---------------------------------------------------- Ms. McGrath, our co-founder and private tutor, is a seasoned and passionate tutor. Over her six years of experience, she has worked with students from ages 8-20 in both group settings and one-on-one. She is an experienced test prep tutor, and she has taught SAT and SHSAT classes throughout the five boroughs. Victoria has dedicated herself to understanding what makes a good teacher. Some of her efforts include: - Interning with NYC’s Department of Education - Gaining a TEFL.TP certification after teaching English abroad - Participating in a PhD research study about the positive effects of translanguaging (using multiple languages) in educational settings Ms. McGrath attended Macaulay Honors College at CUNY Queens College with a full tuition scholarship. During her undergraduate career, she was the recipient of multiple academic and cultural scholarships. She graduated summa cum laude with a BA in History (with a concentration in intellectual history) and a BM in Vocal Performance. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Christina Lopez, co-founder and private tutor, teaches Italian, literature, writing and essay editing, and professional development services, such as assisting with résumés and personal statements. She holds a PhD in Italian and Comparative Literature from Columbia University. Before her doctoral studies, she was an exchange student at the Università degli Studi in Florence, Italy; she received her BA in Italian and Art History from Georgetown University in 2015, graduating magna cum laude. Christina has dedicated significant time to her pedagogical development. Highlights include: - Certification from Columbia University’s Innovative Teaching Institute - Teaching positions at Columbia University, Mercy College, and the Columbia University Global Program in Venice, Italy - Teaching fellowships, presentations at national conferences, and scholarships to further her pedagogical pursuits. She has been recognized with various awards, including the Georgetown University Dante Award for excellence in Italian studies, the NIAF Abruzzo Molise Heritage Scholarship, the Helen and Howard Marraro Prize, and the Benjamin A. Gilman grant for foreign study. In 2015, she was selected as an alternate for the Fulbright Program in Italy, and she was invited to represent the United States at the American pavilion of the World Expo in Milan.
